Samaria Gorge, Crete
The entrance to Samaria Gorge, sunrise, Crete, May 1998. .The gorge is a relatively narrow canyon created by a small river running down from the White Mountains in the prefecture of Chania. The gorge is part of a national park, and a popular tourist trail descends from its entrance at 1250 metres over 18 kilometres to the Libyan Sea. .(Robin Rowland)
